Building a driver on youtube
Making a driver for Dad and son from West Virginia. This is one a few videos coming on line, visit the McGolf Custom Clubs channel.
This is my new driver! he says
After an all day father and son fitting with my new friends from the West Virginia area we found out new sticks were in order for our new 13 year old acquaintance.
J.R. is a 13 year golfer with a great future ahead of him. His swing is still a work in progress but he is strong and with some time and instruction J.R. could take his game to a very high level.
During his fitting he struggled. I think he struggle mostly due to lack of practice but we found the Wishon 771 irons with Recoil shafts and of course green PURE grips to be a great fit. the set was finished with matching green ferrules.
The driver was the biggest improvement! A wishon 919th HL with an Xcaliber model 5 and the GREEN PURE grip at the right length, flex, loft and face closure put the ball down range pretty close to dad. The best feeling a fitter can have is when a golfer turns to him and says "this is my new driver".
I know, I know, everybody loves the long ball. BUT,,, when I asked him to put a few balls in the 50yd bucket with a wedge he put down the driver, grabbed a Wishon HM groove wedgeshafted with a Recoil shaft and proceeded to thump a ball of the front of bucket.
J.R. will have no problems getting the ball airborne and throw darts at the green with a little more time on the course or at the range. I can see him being a leader on and off a very good golf team. Good luck J.R. and thanks again.
I haven't had a new set of irons in 15 years
Another friend from the West Virginia Area found us via the Wishon website. M.R. brought his son for a father and son fitting. After the day long session we found that Dad was a fluid smooth swinger looking for distance, control and feel, Huh like most of us. M.R. is a wonderful person with a great positive attitude and it was a pleasure working with him and his son. See the next post for the son's (J. R.) set.
Dad found the WIshon 575 cavity back set with KBS tour shafts to the proper flex, FLO'd and spine found, bent to the correct lie and lofts to deliver a great feel. The ball flight looked like one belonging to a low handicapper. The Blue PURE DTX grips and the blue ferrule set the irons off and gave a personal feel.
The driver In his bag was 1.5" too long. and too stiff. The new Wishon 919th with a UST mamyia TOURSPX shaft and PURE blue grip immediately changed his control and put the ball in play quite a ways down the range. We coupled matching shafts from UST and Grips from PURE into the Wishon 950 #3 FW and (2) wishon 775 hybrids.
I learned a lot about electric cars during the fitting and where to get some very cool head covers. Thanks again and make sure you put the first drive pass J.R.
Clubmaking Part II (Shafts)

Check out the ORKA driver for ED
If you have been reading the blog,,,, Ed came to McGolf for a fitting after his daughter had some success after her visit here.
Ed ordered a set of irons that has help propel his latest scores of 72, 71 and 69 in competition. He called the other day and said "its time for the driver"
Ed has a very rhythmic swing with a late release and does not miss a fairway. His feel is very keen and finding the driver for him was challenge that day because his best stuff didn't come with him. Frustrated at the lack of quality hits we went through the process again later and boy were quality shots in season.
Funny thing, both times he hit the ORKA GS5 12 degree driver with a UST tourspx shaft the best during both fittings. Orka designs their drivers and woods with a face that is square at address making them a choice for the average to better player. This suited Ed to a tee. See the play on words there. Finally we placed the new black and grey MCC4 golf pride grip on the all gray and black club for a professional high end look. Check it out!
C Tapers and McGolf Help Nick
What you see below is a set of clubs for a player. What is a player you ask? Well, it certainly isn’t me, it is person who strikes the ball well in most every condition and control the flight up and down, right or left. It is at this junction in the golf career that a golfer will move from game improving irons to a player’s cavity to Muscle Back (MBs) or Blades. MB’s are completely sexy, like my wife. Like my wife they are hard to control. However, when you hit the MBs (not my wife) flush there is no better feeling.
Nick is at that point in his game where the Blades are a design he can use effectively. What he was lacking is the proper shaft for his swing. During the Flightscope powered Iron fitting we found the proper length and lie angle then married the swing to the proper swing profile of the shafts we carry at McGolf. In this instance the KBS C-Taper was the perfect fit.
Nick produced some Titleist MBs from his car and asked to make them into the custom set he needed.
I took the heads and polished them as much any chrome head would allow. Then we personalized the clubs with his initials (at his request). Throw a little paint fill in and viola a very nice looking club head.
Once the correct shafts arrived, we assembled the clubs to specifications determined during Nick's fitting. We ended up with standard length clubs, ½ degree flat, one degree strong and flex in the middle of the “X” range. His Lamkin crosslines were modified to fit his style grip to complete the clubs.
Nick hit some balls on our range to test a few of the clubs from the set see if the finished product was correct. Nick placed the new Stix in his car and was off for a round of golf the next morning.
Thanks Nick for the business and the opportunity to work with a very good golfer.
Husband and Wife with a combined handicap of 10!!
Connie and Bob made a 3 hour trip based on a recommendation from Pauline, a lady that was published in the golf digest,
Both are great golfers with different needs and low handicaps. Connie is smooth with a late release and has been using men's clubs because ladies clubs were to flexible. Bobs transition is hard but the is smooth and has a particular feel.
Ladies tend to get the short end of the stick when it comes to equipment and this was no different for Connie. It turns out we needed to make irons a little longer than standard for ladies and put some weight in the putter to get things better. Although a great putter already, some minor tweaks really set off that part of her game. Wedges with particular soles will bring her short game to a new level.
Bob was nonchalant about the equipment but as the fitting went on you could tell that he was wondering about new irons. Bob needed a lighter weight with out sacrificing feel. The AXE shaft provide that very thing. Couple the shaft to a wishon forged irons and some wedges with KBS hi 610 shaft and the iron play will be out of site.
Wishon, Orka, ACCRA, AXE and Winn come together for a great set of clubs
Another new friend near West Virginia made a visit for a fitting. Brent is a golfer with some skills and just needed a boost with some new gear to reach the next level. He hit the ball with a little fade. To help with the fade ORKA irons with a slightly offset irons with a little extra sole was the right call. The Wishon driver and ORKA hybrids with the ACCRA shafts are perfect match. The final piece to the puzzle was the Winn grips that fit the hands and the golfing environment. The putter finished off the set and Piretti was the best fitt with extra weight and the loft and lie makes for a great set.
The best part is we just received and email about the set and they are performing well. Give us a call and schedule your best golf.
McMacDaddy wack the ball in the hole, or use the Piretti Putter
A continuation of the doctors are best patients, We finished off the set with a 41" Piretti putter and superstroke grip. Bent to the proper angle will make for a confident flat stix and,,, we just McGolfed another Callaway MacDaddy PM model using a recoil shaft and Winn Grip.
Thanks again to the happy golfer.
Doctors are the best patients
Dr. Matt came in looking for new clubs to replace some dated pings.
After reviewing the data during the fitting and taking into account this golfers needs we found the added length on the Piretti putter, the Wishon clubs will help save the back issues while providing control of the powerful swing he produces.
In order to get the added length without sacrificing the control, weight or feel we found the Recoil tourspx shaft worked best. TourSPX shaft are only found in select custom shops. This model allowed me to make the needed changes to address Dr. Matt's fitting spec's.
Again the wedge from Wishon will adapt to most any playing position, the driver was hand selected and bent into the proper face angle and loft angle. The irons received the BRAND NEW colored ferulles. Blue is the favorite color so viola blue on the club. The Winn Drytek grip will help reduce the vibration and give a sticky feel.
Thanks for the business!!!!
High school golfer get new wrenches
I young golfer was looking to update her game with some new clubs. Competition is getting furious at this level and any help can mean traveling to the next match or just making the team. This set is light weight yet will stay with the hard transition she makes. The new model of HM groove wedge from Wishon golf with make short shots easier. The Golf Pride grips will provide comfort and give a tacki feel. Delivering that feel will be UST Mamyia shafts frequency matched, aligned and ready to go .
GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR.
new colors available at McCGolf
You are now able to add another dimension to your irons with colored ferrules. Basically you can pimp your irons
To Dubai these go hi ho
Had a fitting with a golfer from Dubai! That classifies as the longest distance for fitting. Our new friend has an upright swing and baseball weight transfer. We worked on the weight transfer and got the ball flying the direction we wanted. After finding the proper length the ball striking went way up. We found the clubheads in the bag were proper but the shafts were not. We bent the irons, put new shafts in the heads and put on winn grips to the right size. Now we have a great set for better golf.
ACCRA and a fine golfer going to the WV open
A fine young man Mr. Cam Roam, has a truck load of talent and a great attitude for golfing at the highest level. Cam was looking for more consistency and after a lesson locally he found it but at the cost of a lower ball flight and it cost him about 30 yards.
During a tune up fitting we tried high lofts, stiffer shafts and other combinations. We decided the ACCRA tour Z shaft was the best option. Not the optimal but better.
We installed the new shaft into the Taylormade Aeroburner, apparently it is the only driver standing up to his swing speed. Take a look at the new driver and hopefully it takes him to the next level.
More Friends from West Virginia or Mc MacDaddy wack put the ball in the hole
Mr. Duda was referred by Mr. McCall for a fitting. After another 2+ hour trip to Waverly Mr Duda found that irons needed to be a little shorter and the driver a little longer. A minor swing change the ball flight is solid with more trajectory.
We found Wishon 771 irons with Recoil shafts and Golf Pride grips. Then we reshafted his brand new Callaway MacDaddys. Now he has mick MacDaddy Wack put the ball in the hole Wedges. A new Callaway Driver, Fairway wood and hybrids custom fit to Mr. Duda's swing.
Joe is a wonderful person with an awesome attitude and great game. Thanks Mr. Duda for the support
A young man with a young swing
Bryce is a ten yrs old and has a swing most of us wish we had now. He just received some Titleist AP2s with some very nice graphite shafts. However, they were very soft and causing an inconsistency right out of the box.
We performed a quick fitting and found a club with a bit more weight and bit more stiffness to his liking and actually, it performed better.
SO,,, we installed some KBS tour 90 shafts. FLO'd them and bent them to the proper lie and finished them off to the proper length. We capped them off with some blue PURE grips.
Take a look and well done Bryce.
Vicki Upgrades Her Iron Game
Vicki is an avid golfer and is part of a family that collects holes in one like I collect golf balls.
Vicki was looking for better golf from her irons. Her current set was made for the general Lady golfer. Fortunately, Vicki not not the average lady golfer with a stronger swing and club head speed bigger than the current set could stand. Ladies, If you are an avid golfer and playing women's clubs chances are the equipment to flexible, to short and pink. If you would like to find better golf like Vicki did in a non stress professional environment, give us a call.
The fitting showed the swing needed just a tweak for better contact. After the testing the was complete we found the Wishon 771 irons with the Recoil shaft 400 series model for light weight and Winn grips the best choice for the best golf. Then made to the proper length and bent to the right lofts and lie made for a tight ball flight and consistent dispersion. I think she was happy!
Thanks Vicki

A Top Knotch Golfer Visits McGolf
Ed McCall is a championship golfer in West Virginia. Ed is a 1-2 handicapper and currently the Virginia - West Virginia Seniors champion and the reigning WV senior 4 ball champion (silver division). He also serves as the secretary of the WVGA executive committee. To top it off he is a staffer at the Greenbrier. Yep, the Greenbrier, you know the golf course hosting a PGA tournament next week?
Needless to say I was a bit shaken, It has been a while since I worked with a tournament player. Ed and I hit it off, I listened to his knowledge on the Greenbrier and its place in our nations history and in golfs history. Folks, if nothing else it is well worth a trip to the area to get a tour and learn about the nation from another angle. Oh, and they have some great golf too.
Back to the fitting. Eds form with irons was dead on. Smooth and forceful just like I expected. However age prevented using standard shafts. We still wanted to feel the head at the transition and maintain control during the swing. The Xcaliber tour shafts provided the light weight I wanted for him and the head feel he needed for great swings. He then liked the look of the Wishon 560 irons. The Flightscope launch monitor provided the information confirming our choices. Since he was carrying some really nice Vokey wedges, we opted to reshaft the wedges with the new wedge offering from Arthur eXtreme Engineering. Topped off with the Golf Pride MCC4 grips the colors, feel and performance were all inline.
During the driver fitting we found the ORKA head to give the lowest spin and longest distance using the UST VTS 5R white shaft. However, he needed a shaft in the driver right away due to tourney last weekend. I placed a UST VTS 5S white in the Taylormade driver he was carrying.
The dispersion narrowed flight was better. He and his partner (Maclyn, his daugther) finished 4 under against the guys. AWESOME!!!!
Thanks for the Visit, the Greenbrier memorabilia and the confidence
Jim
